Jennifer Lowry, MD

Jennifer A. Lowry is a Professor of pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. She is Section Chief of Toxicology within the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Toxicology and Therapeutic Innovations at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, where she also serves as Director of Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unity, Medical Director of the Center for Environmental Health, and Medical Director of the Individualized Pediatric Therapeutics Program. She's the Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Council on Environmental Health Executive Committee and member of the Children’s Health Protection Advisory Committee for the Environmental Protection Agency and Lead Poisoning Prevention Subcommittee for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her areas of interest include developmental pediatric pharmacology, environmental toxicology, and adverse drug reactions.
Kevin Kennedy, MPH
Children's Mercy
CIEC Mr. Kennedy is the Director of Environmental Health at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City. Mr. Kennedy has been involved in environmental health science, research, and professional training for 16 years, and environmental consulting and analytical chemistry for over 25 years. He received his Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Kansas University Medical Center, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Natural History and Environmental Science from the University of Kansas, where he also received teaching certification in secondary science. He has served on a variety of committees including the Environmental Health Committee for ASHRAE, and the Environmental Assessment Workgroup for the Joint Task Force of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Mr. Kennedy is an instructor for the CDC’s National Healthy Home Training Center. He teaches courses in environmental health assessment and investigations, environmental measurement and sampling, and building science. In a previous life he worked as a restoration carpenter and woodworker focusing on older homes.

Electronic Cigarettes: An Emerging Issue for ASHRAE
Over the past several years, use of electronic cigarettes has risen sharply. Debate continues regarding the efficacy of e-cigs as a smoking cessation technique, the health risks associated with vaping and the impact of secondary exposures indoors. This seminar provides an introduction to these electronic nicotine delivery systems, summarizes the related research conducted to date and offers insights on their relevance for ASHRAE members.
