Jim Sinopoli

For over 25 years, Jim Sinopoli has worked extensively on projects involving the configuration and optimization of building technology systems and networks. Jim is the Managing Principal of Smart Buildings, which provides engineering and consulting services for the design and operation of integrated building technology systems.  His clients have included Fortune 100 corporations, major school districts, university systems, airports and ports, national government agencies, large private and public hospitals, technology companies, and nationwide developers. His international experience includes projects in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, South America and Africa. United States federal clients have included the Internal Revenue Service and the US Postal Service. Jim’s educational credits include a BS in Engineering from Purdue University and a MA in Applied Science and Management from Governor's State University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer, an Accredited LEED Professional and a Registered Communications Distribution Designer. Jim is also Chairman of the Continental Automation Buildings Association’s Task Force on Industry Training and Education.

Jim has spoken on numerous occasions at conferences and seminars focusing on high technology issues, including ASHRAE, AIA, BOMA, Builconn, Realcomm, BICSI and CEFPI conferences. He is a contributing editor for the website AutomatedBuildings.com, and has written for many industry publications worldwide.

Jim also has received the international Harry J. Pfister award from the Building Industry Consulting Service International and a 2011 winner for Smart Building Company of the Year by The New Economy and Founder, Jim Sinopoli is a 2012 winner of the Digital Impact Award.

His most recent publication is a book titled "Smart Building Systems for Architects, Owners and Builders".

Troy Davis

Since 1998, Troy Davis has been involved in sustainable buildings and control systems.   This continues through his key position with EnOcean North America, the leading energy harvesting wireless company in the world.

Working together with the largest lighting and HVAC manufacturers in North America there have been advancements in hundreds of products, eliminating tens of thousands of batteries being consumed by sensors within buildings.   Troy has spoken on self powered advanced lighting and HVAC controls at AIA, AHR expo, Hi-Tech, APMA, USGBC Greenbuild, Lightfair international, EnOcean Alliance annual conference, speaking in Europe, the United States and Canada.   As a stakeholder participant in the California title 24 development process Troy is familiar with many of the upcoming changes and updates to these rules.  Troy is an annual participant in wireless industry roundtable events with WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and other wireless protocols. 

Troy holds an MBA in Sustainability and has worked with many of the largest sustainability offices in the country as well as many Utilities, Universities, school districts, office buildings, major property managers to understand advanced controls.  Working toward making their buildings consume less energy without drastic renovations.  In most cases these facilities are able to utilize existing assets in a more effective manner.  Millions of square feet are now more efficient based on the ideals behind battery free wireless sensors and controls. 

Justin Apprill

Justin is Chief Project Development Officer for U.S. Engineering and works with a dynamic team of project development professionals at U.S. Engineering, including business development, marketing, estimating, and preconstruction experts using industry expertise and foresight to deliver best value design and construction solutions for Owners nationwide.

Following graduation Justin worked at Beaudin Ganze Consulting Engineers in Lakewood, CO as Branch Office Manager/Project Engineer for mechanical and electrical consulting engineering company.

Justin graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S., Architectural Engineering in 1996.  KSU Activities and Societies include: Steel Ring, Phi Alpha Epsilon, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
